About DFD

Mission

Dance for the Dead’s mission is to reconnect young adult Jews to Judaism by organizing emotionally balanced dance-centric trips to Germany, Poland, and Israel. Dance for the Dead is dedicated to honoring the memory of the Holocaust while celebrating the vibrancy of Jewish life today. We aim to connect Jewish adults through immersive experiences that blend reflection with joyous celebration. We create a unique space where remembrance and life-affirming activities coexist in an emotionally balanced manner.

Vision

Dance for the Dead’s vision is to build a home for highly creative and expressive Jews, where the memory of the Holocaust is preserved through immersive experiences that blend remembrance with vibrant celebration.

What We Do

  • Daytime Reflection: We organize visits to historical Holocaust sites in Germany and Poland including March of the Living's annual trip to Auschwitz and Birkenau for Remembrance Day.

  • Nighttime Celebration: In the evenings, we embrace the energy and vibrancy of life by dancing together at some of the best clubs and site specific dance celebrations in these cities. This contrast helps us appreciate the present and honor the resilience of those who came before us.

Why It Matters

Dance for the Dead is a movement that bridges the gap between remembrance and celebration. By participating in our program, Jews can reconnect with their heritage in an approachable and meaningful way. Our aim is to build a supportive community that honors the past, celebrates the present, and looks forward to a vibrant future.

Our Story + Your Stories

Dance for the Dead is dedicated to Eva Blumenfeld's Opa, Peter Brody ע״ה‎, a Holocaust survivor whose resilience and stories shaped her. This initiative honors his legacy, his ability to cry, dance, and be free. Opa's family's escape from Berlin just before Kristallnacht to rebuild his life in America embodies the strength, foresight, and determination that Dance for the Dead aims to celebrate and remember.
